Benefits of Stainless Steel Passivation

ASTM 967 is a key manufacturing process specification for passivation of stainless steel parts. This spec states that, "passivation, unless otherwise specified, is defined as the chemical treatment of stainless steel with a mild oxidant, such as a nitric or citric acid solution, for the purpose of the removal of free iron, or other foreign matter..."

Citric acid passivation treatment of stainless steel is intended to improve the corrosion resistance of parts made from stainless steel.

KYZEN stainless steel passivation products are citric acid formulations, which are effective replacements for nitric acid products used for passivation.  

KYZEN passivation chemistries have significantly improved EH&S properties versus nitric acid passivation products. Simply stated, they are much safer for human exposure than the conventional nitric acid formulations.
